It`s been 6 months since we adopted the kittens and all is going well.
For about 7 weeks now they have had access to the outdoors through the dog flap in the kitchen door (which I got installed for the dog we are sometimes minding). This weekend Gambit figured out a way to get from the garden onto the kitchen extension roof. Now I obviously feel bound to open the guestroom window that also leads onto that roof, so that Rogue can join. Although I only do it if I am in the room, so during my working hours (if it`s not too cold).
They have been adventuring and I have no idea how far they go although they haven`t turned up at our front door begging to be let in. I fear that day cause that`s the side of the house to the road. But we always wanted them to be outdoor kittens, so we have to live with the risk.
Considering how I overthink the welfare of the kittens I`m glad I don`t have kids though. I am conscious of the thoughts and work against them.
It`s interesting to observe the different personalities of the kittens. Gambit is more outdoors and is vocal when he wants something. Rogue is also outdoors but not as often or for as long as Gambit and she will chirp when playing with a toy or seeing me. It`s adorable. Gambit doesn`t like sharing his spots, so even if Rogue gets in there when he`s not in the room he`ll generally box her off/out of it once he comes in. But my open sock basket in our bedroom is hers. When I play with them especially with the stick with string and ball, Gambit adores catching the string and chewing on it. Rogue prefers chewing on the stick.
I hope once lockdown is eased, we can introduce them to more people and a visiting dog in our house. We`ll see how that will go.
And we need to get them used to doing their business outdoors in the garden. Gambit refuses as far as I can make out and Rogue only sometimes pees outdoors.
So, I`m glad we got them and will at some stage stop worrying about them.
